DC resident Cedae Hardy has been charged on an 18-count indictment for his role in at least six separate carjackings in the region, including one that left their victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to court documents, Hardy would carjack his victims at gunpoint - four of which were with other co-conspirators - then drove the stolen vehicles to a garage on Florida Avenue in Northeast DC.

A second person would then contact potential buyers, which unbeknownst to him, were actually undercover officers from the Metropolitan Police Department.

They’d arrange a meet, typically at the garage, and then they’d split the profits with Hardy.

In one instance earlier this year, Hardy and his cohort exchanged texts, and an hour and a half later he showed up to the garage with a carjacked Mercedes Benz SL550 that was stolen in Hyattsville.

They then sold it to an undercover officer for $1,200.

On April 18, Hardy got into a Honda Civic that had one person inside and began shouting while brandishing a gun, prosecutors say. The victim couldn’t understand and shoved Hardy, who began firing multiple shots, hitting him in the forearm and stomach.

Hardy then got out and fled back to DC before ultimately being apprehended.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit carjacking and multiple counts of:

  • Using, carrying, possessing, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence;

  • Carjacking;
  • Interstate transportation of stolen property;
  • Sale or receipt of a stolen vehicle.

Hardy is no stranger to law enforcement.

Earlier this year he was caught in Maryland driving a stolen vehicle, prompting a police pursuit that ended when he crashed into police cruisers while attempting to flee back to DC.
